Thanks, but really we are too far into the project. We move in two weeks.

Not all Architects are bad, I just do not think anyone need them once you have a reliable team of engineers and workers.

We are now onto the last lap. We are moving in on Saturday 4th November.

Then we have all the fun of learning about solar & wind power. Does it ever end?

I'd like to suggest http://www.rvsolarelectric.com for info on your solar needs. It's an RV site, but the same systems & equipment would be used for casas. Ask them to send their free Solar Electric catalog & design planner. Lots of good info.

I'll take a look. I am right now investigating Inverter A/C systems. More expensive initially, but seem to run on next to nothing.

I am exhausted to be honest, I cannot wait to get in my hammock in my bedrrom next week.

Inverter AC systems is what the link is about. It's the least expensive supplier for solar equipment that I've been able to find after a year of looking. And if you're going to run solar and windpower, the principles and equipment are the same for RV or casa.
If I can be of any assistance further down the road, give me a shout.

I think I am a bit blind after all this research about the house that I can't seem to find the DC air conditioners on that site.

There are no household DC air conditioners available. The compressors require too much current at 12 or 24 Volts DC. and the cost of hook up wire alone would be prohibitive. All solar housing is based on a 12 or 24 volt Battery bank and 120 VAC converters. There are some small 12v appliances (coffee pot, slow cooker, etc.) available, but are expensive and terribly inefficient. It gets extremely expensive to power a house this way. Usually solar power is used where electricity is unavailable, and then just for basic needs.
As an example, I have 4 batteries in my motor home and a 2000 watt converter which is about equivalent to one 120v 20amp circuit. That cost, at current prices would be roughly $3500.

If you'd like, I can find a few more links for you to look at. That would save you a few hours of looking through a google search to find pertinent links.

Yes there are units like these but they'll drain a battery in about an hour. The smallest unit draws around 50 amps at 12 V.
Perhaps, it I may, ask what your overall goal with solar and/or windpower is. One room of a house for airconditioning? A whole house power system? It would help if I knew what you were looking for or what the application is.

O.H.-
Your flooring sounds beautiful.

The more you learn about setting up your home solar system, the more questions you'll have. This is a great forum to look over and pose questions. There are some very helpful solar gurus that will answer your questions and it's a friendly vibe so no need to fret about "dumb" questions.

The forum is sponsored by the company where we get all our solar equipment- Northern Arizona Wind & Sun (good prices and no sales tax, but not very helpful for you way down south)

Hola. I wish you so much happiness and good memories in your beautiful casa. I bet you are having more fun than not! Even if you have to can the architect. Good is that you found out at the right time! Si or No? We live in a condo community on the Diamante which is about six miles away from the busy bay of Acapulco. We constructed the entire inside of our casa; inside walls, everything. Most of the fun was meeting soo many wonderful people. We spent half of our seven months in Home Depot and tile places, etc. We learned so much.We now return to our casa looking forward to completing our roof garden. Most of it will be built in cement and stone bar, seats, showert. Do you know any outdoor furniture places outside of ACA. The prices here are beyond unreal. Costco carried only the white plastic. Now that I am thinking out loud, my local carpenter did build my furniture in my kitchen. I bet he could build what I want. Hmmmm. But, any ideas are appreciated. We do not mind traveling. Thanks.

Congratulations on achieving such a substantial milestone! Perhaps next you can post some photos of the interior as well? I am sure everyone would love to see more...

I can see that you must have a problem with the beach sand. I guess every site has its issues (ours is an eroding steep driveway)...but am wondering about your idea to plant grass on the sand...will require an inordinate amount of watering you know! I guess I am curious about your water supply there...do you collect from the roof?

BEst of luck with your project. Hope your life on the beach meets ALL your expectations....
