In Mexico, is the service line generally comprised of 2 hot conductors and a neutral? Or a hot, neutral and a ground? Was real puzzeled this weekend when looking at our breaker box. From the weatherhead into the breaker box, I had 3 wires, 2 of them realtively fat, say 6-8 ga. and on 10 ga. or so. One of the fat wires was connected to the top of the breaker and the other 2 were bonded together and tied to the box. There is no grounding (ground rods) that I can see in this system. I looked at this after getting shocked after I had shut off the breakers to the light fixture I was replacing...Turned out that one of the wires measured about 95 - 108 v on it. BUT, I measured this voltage from the fixture wire to the metal fixture box as well as the metal ladder I was standing on! I cant understand why I would even measure any voltage not to mention a potential from a wire to a seemingly ungrounded fixture box. Seemed like it was floating. I pulled the breakers from the service line, leaving the branch circuits connected to the bottom of the breaker. still had this voltage at the fixture wire. Real strange, I could not see any other breaker locations or any other sources of power that may have been tapped from other sources. Any thoughts as to why I am seeing this sort of thing? Thanks!!!
