Can't Post |
I am flying to Puerto Vallarta on Sunday 10/27. I would appreciate any real time on the ground information on the PV airport and weather there and also, in La Manzanilla, where I am heading for 3 weeks!

tks!

It's raining pretty hard right now in Melaque area. The surf is pretty high but not as bad as some other storms that have gone by in the past. For the most part your area has been spared anything serious. I'd hate to be up north tho.

Hard to imagine it crossing over the central highlands and ending up in Texas. Maybe bring Chapala lake level up a bit. Anyone have stories of past hurricanes and the effects inland.

I wish those of you well on the coast!

The winds dissipate quickly over land, but the rain goes a long way inland. Here in Lerdo we get heavy rains from hurricanes from the Gulf and from the Pacific. The rain from Kenna started yesterday and shows no signs of letting up anytime soon. I'm sorta stuck at home because my street is already a mud hole.

"He be there" is the problem ... last he said his phone connections were intermittant. People are talking about loss of water and power for a few weeks.

Isn't your pardner flying into PV Sunday ??? That does not sound good.

Is that big orange thingey the mudhole in front of your house?

I talked to my folks in Vallarta last night, once again they are totally ambivalent - in fact non-plussed too - they (and many locals) say that the bay is surrounded by mountains, etc. I must say I was in Vallarta when Paulina was predicted by CNN to "level the town", and all that happened was a loud, wet storm. My parents (and locals) were right on that one, I hope on this one too (which is less of a storm and less direct).

The marshes and flats of San Blas would receive the greatest damage? Just a guess. Not too many people there. Could wash some crocs up to your mudhole Rolly - keep yours eyes open.

This just in......

11:30 am pst. The hurricane hit PV, and has just finished its main bang, and was a lot worse than anybody thought, mostly from ocean surge. All the beachfront palapa and palapa type restaurants along los Muertos are heavily damaged. Eldorado is down, Las Palapas is down, Daquiri Dicks down, etc. There is sand up half a block from the beach, and minor damage to walls and brickwork all along the shore. Power is out. Phones are up. Many roads closed. No reports of death or injury yet, and everything fixable.

The source is my mum who stood out in the rain photographing everything.

Current conditions 2:00PM at Lake Chapala: winds calm, soaking raining all day, quite chilly for this time of year (about 17 Celsius). The rain is expected to last through the weekend. Live Weather Channel reports from Vallarta showing big waves, falling palm fronds, lots of wind. Storm continues to bear east-northeast over land.

i'm in Mazatlan and we didn't get anything but good surf. Eveyrone was prepared for the worse case scenario. Saw pictures, on news TV from San Blas. They got hit pretty hard with lots of flooding and blown down trees etc. No deaths reported fortunately.

Rebuilding

Can't Post |
So now the work begins, all the brick, concrete and paint will be done quickly, but apparently 'palapa' palm frond work is quite expensive. At this time, the lowest of the restaurant season, I hope they don't choose to rebuild in tin or something like that. What would be the worst would be that 'fake' palapa material (shredded aluminum sheet) sold in Florida.

Is anybody interested in a palapa construction thread? Now would be the time to photo some major construction.

I be here OK, My ISP went and got flooded and servers don't work well when floating.
My power was back on at 4pm yesterday - they turned it off at 9:30am as a safety measure and also to save some expensive transformers.
Nice sunny day and the clean up is progressing very well.
Here's a page of pictures from the Malecón taken today-
