Color matching today is such an established thing that you can take any color you like into most paint stores and get exactly what you want at the best price by shopping around. This isn't rocket science...

Most places you can get it matched by computer, but we still go to our favorite paint store and ask the owner to mix ours. He has about 30 years experience and it's rare that he's not right on.

The advice I give here is from my 9 years of homeownership and maintenance in Ajijic. And by talking to two of the best painters in Ajijic, both of whom "Guarantee" their work. Yes, a real Guarantee from honest contractors. One contractor guarantees his paint jobs for 3 years and the other for 5 years. You get what you pay for. Everyone is a painter in Mexico (HA), I don't think so. Talk to the contractors references. You get what you pay for when it comes to a high quality painter.

Both use either COMEX VINIMEX Satinado or PRISA POLIPRISA Satinado on the exterior of the houses. My house was painted with Comex Vinimex 5 years ago and still looks perfect, including color and sheen. The lasting quality of a paint job is in the preparation. Both contractors power wash the entire outside of the house. Using the proper primer makes all the difference in lasting quality too. There is a huge difference between Comex Vinimex Satinado and Prisa Poliprisa Satinado compared to inferior Sherwin Williams for the exterior, Tonal or any other paint. I used Sherwin Williams 5 years ago and had to repaint 6 months later. Satinado paints last longer. Matte paints will not last. Matte is good for the interior of the house. Sherwin Williams is good for inside, but doesn't have lasting quality outside.

For metal gates, doors, etc you can use either Comex, Prisa or Sherwin Williams, but don't use Matte as it will not stand up as long to weather, especially sun. If you don't like gloss (longest lasting), use Semi Gloss.

You get what you pay for when it comes to quality paint.
