If I go to a building supply in Mexico and asked for a 1/4-20 bolt will they think I'm loco?How about pipes? Would I be able to buy a 1" copper pipe?

Yes, Mexico uses the metric system. But a lot of things are still available in the English (American?) system. For example, every tape measure I have seen here has marks in both systems. That makes it easy to convert from one to the other. I do it all the time.Try Ace hardware; it's self service so you can look for yourself. There are also Home Depot like stores in most major cities.

But if you get into larger diameter plastic pipe and fittings, specify English or "local". Copper pipe is standard english (I think) and steel or black iron is standard english size everywhere in the world that I have been to.: If I go to a building supply in Mexico and asked for a 1/4-20 bolt will they think I'm loco?: How about pipes?
