Cherry tomatoes out of control

Why are my cherry tomato plants 5 feet tall and have to be supported even without fruit. And they are still growing

They do have a bunch of flowers

Full sized tomato cages spring to mind as a temporary solution

Tomatoes can be like cantaloupe and watermelons. When the soil is very rich, (heavy loam - little or no sand), then the plants grow lots of vines and greens, and don't set much fruit - partly as a result of breeding practices in developing tomato strains.

For now, support all the greenery - and if you want it to set fruit that grows faster, you may need to pinch off a bunch of the flowers, so the plant's energy goes into the remaining fruit/flowers. Or feed and water it well, and keep tying-up and supporting the new growth. Next crop? Consider amending the soil with liberal doses of sand, and use a little less Miracle Grow? Also consider pinching off excess budding and branching and stop new growth at apical buds, to focus the plant's energy on just a few stalks and fewer branches per stalk.

Further reading tells me in the right conditions they can cover the side of a house -- they are a vine. Also that you can let them droop and then direct them up again. They are in a wire cage but have overgrown it. Interesting ... just play it by ear
