Ed, Portland Cement (cemento gris) and White Portland Cement (cemento blanco) are essentially the same product, basically a mixture of calcium and aluminum silicates. The primary difference in cemento blanco is the careful choice of raw materials that don't contain the trace elements (mostly iron, manganese and chromium) that give "normal" Portland Cement its gray color. The great care that is taken in all steps of production in order to maintain the white color sometimes also leads to a slightly higher final strength. The primary use of cemento blanco is in structures where the light color of the finished concrete is an important element of the architectural design. Plaster of Paris is commonly called Yeso Blanco. Blanco de España is ground dolomite, the primary raw material for Zinc White (which is also sometimes called Blanco de España), a popular base coat for canvas used in oil paintings.
