Hire a local architect who is familiar with the soil conditions at your site. It might also be wise to hire an engineer to do soil tests. With a clear understanding of the soil conditions, the architect/engineer can design a foundation and column system that will provide as much stability as practical. If he tells you that a two story house is not a good idea, believe him. A good foundation is expensive – but it is also priceless. Rolly E-visit me http://Rollybrook.com On Facebook as Rolly Brook
