Any pool experts out there?

My neighbor's tree has finally stopped dropping leaves into my pool faster than I could collect them. The pool now has enough algae so that you cannot see the bottom tiles. I do not want to hire a pool person, as I know this is an easy fix do it yourself job. Just do not know what chemicals to buy and how to proceed. Any helpful responses would be appreciated. Thanks, T

http://www.havuz.org/

Balancing pH is the main issue once the pool is clean. I assume you know how to vacuum, reverse flush your filter and use a 'shocker' to make the crud vacuumable

There are different types of algae and different algicides sold to control them. My pool was invaded by green algae when the chlorinator wasn't working properly. The pool guy told me to add the algicide and let it work, then brush the pool, wait at least two hours for the dead algae to settle to the bottom, then vaccum. Sometimes it takes a couple of treatments. Now I add a smaller amount of algicide once every two weeks to help prevent them. Both chlorine and pH levels are important in keeping them under control, especially when the water is warm.

I find the algicide at City Club and in some larger plumbing supply stores.

Can do all of that. "Shocking" means a double dose of chloro, correct? I do check the pH, and it was fine. Have not checked it since it turned slime green. Once I get the water clear, I will do it on a regular basis, as I have always done. thanks. T

I have green algae, also, but no chlorinator. I do it by hand and then check the chemical balance. Got it. Add the algaecide, keep the filter off, scrub the sides and then vacuum the next day. May have to do it a second time. I have also diverted the pool water so that it does not run through the solar panels. Figure that just adds more algae with the heated water. Your advice was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much. Never heard of City Club. You must not live arround here. Here, in Ajijic, lots of pool stores. No problem getting algaecide. Will go out in the morning and follow yur advice. Thanks, again. T
