I seem to see many houses for sale and rent that have more baths than bedrooms. Is this a cultural thing. Are they refering to full baths or something like wash(ing) room.

Quite frequently you'll find a powder room, a half bath, in proximity to the living room or den. Some houses will have a servant's bath -- which doesn't always spell the presence of servants, but instead is a bath just off the patio or near the utility room.
