It varies but most of the time it's marked. I believe on the big stretches of what looks like freeway, it's about 110Km/hr. However, I remember driving it real fast at times. Not a lot of cops except for a few stretches. I've made it from Mazatlan to Nogales in 12 hours. That's about 750 miles I think. I was cooking along about 80 to 85 in my 97 Nissan pickup.
However, even though it's the best road I've driven in Mexico and I've driven the distance at night, I did run into a small group of Texas Longhorns and almost bit the big one at 75/mph. I weaved around and missed them and felt sorry for the lights coming up behind me. Scared the crap out of me to say the least.

The speed limit in the northern portion is lower than in the southern portion. In that northern portion, especially for the first 100 km or so, the cuota goes through a number of towns and villages where the speed limit drops. My recollection is that the higher limits along this portion are in the 100 km/hr range, dropping to 60 km/hr in places.A bit further south, the cuota goes through Ciudad Obregon and Hermosillo, slowing things down again.The portion from Culiacan to Mazatlan is an autopista with speed limits of around 120 or 130 km/hr.To give you an idea of driving times, we left the Nogales paperwork checkpoint at 05:50 and arrived in Culiacan at 17:00. This was with two drivers, stopping only for gas.We left downtown Culiacan at 06:00 and arrived in Mazatlan at 08:30, but it took us about 20 minutes to find our way out of town.
