place to stay-Between Guadalajara and Morelia

We a planning a tirp to El Rosario to see the butterflies. We are leaving from Puerta Vallarta and would like to overnight some place between Guadalajara and Morelia, preferably about half way between. Any suggestions?

How about Zamora, Michoacán? Or not far away, at Lake Camécuaro, closer to Tangancícuaro?
