phones and accomodations at Ajijic

I'm motorcycling down from Toronto, Canada, leaving this Sunday, Sept 28. I will be in Ajijic by Sunday, Oct 5th and will stop riding for a couple of days of rest before starting a loop to take me through Jalpan and down to San Cristobal and Oaxaca and back to Ajijic. Any good suggestions for a hotel there? Looking for secure parking (always necessary for a motorcycle) within sight of the room, or inside an outdoor courtyard. I'm trying to stick to a $50 maximum/night limit.
Also I've been told that, due to the very high cost of rroaming and long distant charges on a Canadian cell phone, that I should pick up a cheap Mexican phone and use a phone card with it. This way I would pay the same phone charges MExican residents pay. Can anyone suggest a reputable place in Ajijic that would sell phones and phone cards? Any suggestions would be appreciated.... thanks.

John - try Laguna B & Brunch on Zaragoza, a couple of blocks from the Ajijic plaza. They have courtyard parking which is locked at night. The beds are hard but the place is spotless, breakfasts are really good and the cost is $35 a night - see here:

There is a small store on the plaza in Ajijic that can sell you a phone and cards - it has a Telcel sign in front, and is just up from the police station. You shouldn't have to spend much more than 350 pesos for a basic phone which will come with some time - it used to be 100 pesos a month for 3 months, but I haven't bought a phone for some time.

Just FYI:

Motorcyle Touring Mexico: A Guide to a Safe Winter Vacation in Mexico Jerry & Sharon Smith 1997 The authors manage to get an amazing amount of information and photographs in this small paperback, especially considering the easy to read (ie large) font size used. Bought this in 11/05 at the Hotel Nueva Posada, Ajijic.
