on the road

Hi guy's I was just wondering if the road from Nogales to Mazatlan is safe to travel by car at night on the toll way?
And has there been any bandido activity on the hwy 200 to Ixtapa and beyond?
Cheers

The generally accepted wisdom is that it is not a good idea to drive on the hiways at night because of animals on the road, etc. The toll roads are said to be OK at night.
Hiway 200 south of Manzanillo is definitely NOT free of bandits. On a recent trip to Manzanillo, my local Mexican friends talked me out of going that way to Morelia. A friend of a friend has a business in Ixtapa. He says that at one time or another every one of his employees has been robbed on that road.

: How do we avoid being stopped by them and if we are stopped how do you handle them? Do they pose a physical threat?
Cheers

I don't know a sure way to avoid the bandits. I think I would leave Manzanillo very early in the morning, maybe before dawn. They are not out on the road every day and maybe are not hanging around very early in the morning. The local thought is that the bandits are men who live along that rather deserted stretch of road who go out to rob travelers when they need a few pesos. It is said that all they want is money and will not be violent if you are not.
I don’t have any first-hand experience with these matters (thank goodness); I’m just repeating what I’ve been told. Why don’t you post this same question on the Michoacan forum. You may find some more knowledgeable folks there.
