I guess it depends on where you are headed. Ticketbus.com.mx works fine if you know how to use it. They will not let you search months in advance, but the routes never seem to change. I think it is quoting a price 4 months in advance is what causes the problem. I search the routes on Ticketbus like I´m leaving tomorrow, prices and schedule comes up everytime, try doing that to far in advance and nothing shows. Bus lines run like clockwork in Mexico, same routes for years.
Now I can tell you about the time I got my limit of snipes...it was a dark and moonless night in a midwestern cow pasture....

John Barreiro's site might be a start:

Larpman's Guide to Mexico - Bus Schedules

Larpman's Guide to Mexico - Introduction

No snipe in sight...

I don't know what region of the country you need to travel, but SENDA is the leading carrier in northeast/northcentral Mexico. Their website will allow you to make reservations online. In my experience it is very reliable. Omnibus also has a website that is well organized.

Thanks muchly - I was actually looking at longer hauls, say Monterrey to Manzanillo, Monterry to Mazatlan etc. A friend of mine in MX just checked the airfare from Mont to Manz and it was 8700.00 pesos. And I was looking for afternoon and evening second class runs from PV to Melaque - those I found =)

For longer-haul trips, you'll want to check point-to-point shorter-haul destinations. For example, try Monterrey to Guadalajara and then Guadalajara to Manzanillo or Mazatlán. Your trip will probably have to be on two different bus lines.

Does anyone have experience in going by bus from Harlingen Texas to Ajijic or from Harlingen to Gaudalajara to Ajijic. There is a daily bus from Harlingen to Guadalajara that leaves at 6PM. I can't figure out if I can just go from Harlingen to Ajijic without going to Guadalajara. I am in St. Louis MO and will fly to Harlingen on Feb 28 to visit friends but want to check out Ajijic/Lake Chapala as a place to live. I have read several books on the area and it seems like nice place to retire, even being single. Thanks, Bill

You'll need to go through Guadalajara, but from there, the rest is easy. A seven iron, at most.

Thanks tashby, I will use a 6 iron to be safe. If they have rental clubs at the golf course there I do want to play. I work as a cart attendent at the Forest Park golf course in St. Louis MO, it is pretty easy here to join someone at the course.

I live in Harlingen and am not aware of any buses leaving here for Guadalajara. The only buses that leave for Guadalajara are either from Brownsville or McAllen. The bus that I have taken from McAllen has a website: www.gruposenda.com.
McAllen also has an airport if you want to fly in.

jreboll, Thanks for taking time to help me. I am flying into Harlingen airport and will stay with friends who live in Harlingen. My friend Ron called yesterday and said he was at the new? Harlingen bus depot. There is a daily express bus that goes from that bus depot to Guadalajara at 6PM every day. At least this is what I understand but maybe he said McAllen. Cost is about $80 each way. Again, I may be mistaken, but will find out when I get to Harlingen. Do you remember the the cost of the McAllen bus? Bill
