flying with dogs

Can't Post |
I just made reservations to fly from the US to DF and then on to Chiapas with my dog, who has flown with me before, prior to 9/11. USA Today just had an article (10/04, page 9D), about traveling with pets post 9/11. It seems that many airlines that would take dogs as cargo before are no longer doing so ( (America West, Continental, United, Southwest are a few they named),and that many others have raised their prices to as high as $299 one way. I am going on American, which charges $80 ow and then Mexicana in-country (another $30). Just an FYI to check with the airline before making the final reservation, becuase once it is paid for, it is hard to cancel. Also, rabies shot within a month? I thought within a year was valid...)

flying with dogs-do what the airline says

: we flew with our lab last year (post 9/11) with no problemos, although we used Aeromexico all the way. we spoke to American Air as well and got different rules for the dog's papers. we followed Aeromexico's instructions, figuring they would decide whether to accept the dog or not and there wouldn't be anything we could do about it at 7:00 a.m. In the end nobody asked for any of the dog's papers, even at immigration. but others have had troubles, so best to err on the side of caution. if the airlines differ in their requirements I would go by the most stringent.
