ferry Tampa to Veracruz

There have been countless rumours about a possible ferry service coming or existing between Tampa and the Port of Veracruz. As the only alternative to flying is the long drive from Ontario to Cuernavaca every year, this would certainly save a lot of travel. We also have 3 small dogs and the airlines are no longer going out of their way to accomodate them (or us for that matter). Any information on a ferry from Florida to Veracruz would be most welcome.

The answer is simple -- it's just not a viable commercial venture. It's been talked about, studied, experimented with, all with the same result -- no go.
