Shortcut

fastest/cheapest way from yucatan to mexico city

Can't Post |
we need to go from the yucatan area (probably cancun) to mexico city. we are not sure whether to take the bus or spend some more money and fly to mexico city. so we need some more information about the costs of a bus/plane ticket and the time involved. Does anyone know if it is possible to go from yucatan to the mexico city area by boat?

BOAT: suggest you look closely at a topographic
map of Mexico. Mexico City is in the interior at
about 7500 feet; Cancun is at sea level, 1100+ miles away. Mexico has never developed a set of interior canals like parts of Europe. I don't think you can get there from here by boat.
BUS: my personal favorite for the Yucatan is the
ADO GL service. http://www.adogl.com.mx
will show you the schedule of 3 through buses
each day. Fare is shown there as 887 pesos (at
least until it rises again). If 24 to 28
straight hours on the bus is unappealing, add in
lodging for a night or two along the way.
IMHO for long distance trips inside Mexico, you
can usually fly for the real cost of bus. If your
time is limited, the case is even more compelling.
TRAIN: train service does not exist over the
proposed route. There are a few limited segments
of second class trains reputed to still be
operating in the Yucatan, but they would not be
particularly helpful to you.
Just my personal opinion.
Elliott Moore
