expired permit

I obtained an auto permit last June (expired in December) but my trip was cancelled, I never crossed the border, never put the sticker on my windshield...and promptly forgot about it until right now. This means that the thing is about 6 months past due. I live in San Diego and can drive down to Tijuana tomorrow to straighten out the issue, but need to know if they are going to confiscate my vehicle or if there will be any surprises waiting for me. I am not normally worried about such things as I get around fine in Mexico, but this is a new one. Is there anything special I need to know before I go down? The consulate here in San Diego tells me that a quick trip to aduana will solve the problem, but that I will have to convince them that the car was never in Mexico (which it wasn't). Any advice will be appreciated.

Seems to me that if you never put the sticker on your windshield it would be rather obvious as it would still be attached to the paper it came in. I don't think that would be a problem and if you were anxious about your car being confiscated why not walk across and turn it in to the authorities. It's only about two blocks from the border there in Tijuana.<p>

Anyhow, I am in agreement with you and do not think it will be a problem. Thanks.
