driving from Guadalajara to Manzanillo

Pls tell me if it's safe to drive from GDL to Manzanillo? I heard about corrupted cops who stop tourists's cars and who trump up issues to extort money. Has anyone driven this way, and if so how is it. Pls adivse. By the way, is it easy to rent a car in GDL? Thank you.

I have driven that way several times and never saw a cop on the road. Take the toll road. It's a pretty easy 4 hours. When in Manzanillo, drive carefully -- there are lots of cops on the main tourist strip, but they are not out to get you. For a non-tourist view of Manzanillo, click belowIt easy to rent a car in GDL if you have lots of money.

: Guad. to Manzanillo is an easy safe trip of 3hrs. on the toll roads. Take #54 out of Guad which becomes #54D a 4 lane toll road which changes into a 2 lane. A new bypass leads you around Colima and on down to a good 4 lane toll road along the coast to Manzanillo. Remember to get off toll road at Manz.just before the last toll booth, otherwise the toll road will take you well north of the town. Tolls cost about $220p.
You will not likely have any trouble with the police.

: If you are flying into Guad and then going to Manz. for a holiday, you would be better off to take one of the luxury buses to Manz. My son and his wife did it recently and found it very enjoyable. The Mexican luxury buses are far superior to buses you see in Can. & the US. The bus trip is 4:15 hrs.and has only one stop in Colima. The best bus line is ETN. You could take a taxi from the airport to the bus station. the bus will drop you off in Manz. in the Hotel District and you can easily get a taxi from there to your hotel. The bus fare is cheaper than tolls + gas!!Check out www.magic-bus.com
