Day 1: Cross the border early in the morning (5 or 6 am) for a faster time through customs and the car registration stuff.
TJ to Gomez Palacio on 45 – toll road; travel time about 10 hours
Over night in Gomez. Plenty of motels on the highway.
Day 2: Gomez Palacio on 40/49 toll road to the Zacatecas turn off – highway 49
Continue on from Zacatecas to Aguascalietes, then to Leon, then to Salamanca.
Salamanca ( this leg is tricky) to Morelia, then to Zitácuaro on highway 15
This will be a very long day. You might want to overnight at one of the cities listed. There’ll be motels all along the way. I like to stop where the truckers stop to eat and sleep.
Please be aware that highway numbers are not very important and are not always displayed. Follow by the names of the towns along your route.
Get a map and have it handy.
Road signage in many towns and cities is poor, so be alert. If you get lost, an easy way out is to hire a taxi to lead you the highway.
This route puts you on toll roads as much as possible. They are not cheap! But they are excellent highways with not much truck and bus traffic. If you don’t want to pay the tolls, you can take the free roads that parallel the tolls, but your trip will be much slower, perhaps taking another day which may end up costing about as much as the toll roads.

Why Start in Tijuana when you could easily start in Nogales, Sonora or Juarez, Chihuahua. I would suggest Starting in Nogales. More toll roads, more civilization, food, people, etc....and Faster, very important in my opinion.

Why Enter at Tijuana?

: Why Start in Tijuana when you could easily start in Nogales, Sonora or Juarez, Chihuahua.
I agree with Juan. Because of the Gulf of California, unless you've got major water wings you're going to be forced to roughly parallel the US/Mexico boarder using MX2 until you hit MX15, maybe 75 KM south of Nogales. If you're coming from the San Diego area using US I-8 to Tuscon, and then heading south to Nogales (or heading east for one of the Texas crossings) would be faster, albeit slightly longer of a route.

General Observation Regarding Message Titles

Can't Post |
: Hello out there..I really do need help on my earlier posting..
I can't speak specifically for the Mexico Connect forums, but as a long time participant on both the usenet and electronic bulletin board systems (anybody else remember TBBS, RBBS, FidoNet, or FirstClass?), it's my general impression that you can increase the probability of a prompt and useful response by giving your message a descriptive and meaningful subject line ("Tijuana to Zitacuaro Driving Reccomendations"), rather than something cute ("From here to there..will it take an eternity") and/or vague ("driving...first time by motor vehicle"). Particularly before the advent of high-speed connections and me modulating my coffee intake, I'd actually reward a usenet participant who used a nondescriptive subject line on a message it turns out I wasn't interested in with a quick keystroke combination that would drop them into my personal killfile, so I wouldn't see any of their postings in the future.

I just notice that the original question was driving instructions from Tijuana, but I gave a route from Juarez – even called it TJ. One more ‘senior’ moment, I guess.
Sorry for the confusion, Cadebus.
