ajijic to manzanillo

We are hoping to spend a week or so at the beach anytime between Dec. 20 to Jan. 1 with our son, daughter and their 1 year old. Any suggestions on a good family beach location within an easy day's drive of Ajijic. I am thinking Manzanillo...which we haven't yet explored...any suggestions on family friendly hotel/condo?

Margaret - that is high season anywhere on the coast so be prepared for crowds and higher hotel costs. We always enjoy staying at La Posada in Las Brisas, Manzanillo. It has a childrens' pool - you would need to book early, I think, and they have a minimum 3 night stay at that time of the year - if you are looking for 5 star, then this is not the place, but for a pleasant and relaxing spot to stay, right on the beach, it can't be bettered:

Be warned that Juan is not always very good at returning emails - it might be better to call them sometime between 10 a.m. and noon. Juan speaks perfect English and his sister Klara, who may answer the phone, also speaks English, if that is important to you.

You might also look at the Go Manzanillo site for possible condo rentals:

I'm going to second bournemouth's rec on that! (And thank you for pointing us there in the first place 4 or so months ago.)

Definitely not fancy, but a darn nice spot. Lovely people and a nice breakfast to boot. (And they took our discreet doggie during low season. Thanks!)

Thank you Bournemouth and Tashby I will contact them tomorrow. I don't like the crowds but we get our kids when we can get them! Being school teachers they at least get a long vacation and I get to be abuela for a few days. Do you find the drive/road challenging? We are familiar with Mexico driving.

Not at all - we use the cuota as the free road is very, very windy and twisty. There is one section of cuota that is only one lane in either direction and you can get stuck behind trucks headed to and from the port in Manzanillo but it is not that long - patience is a virtue! PM if you have any more questions.
