Veracruz to Acapulco route

I am looking for some information on the best/safest/fastest route to take to drive from Veracruz City to Acapulco. ie Highways to take/avoid, best place to stop for the night inbetween the two cities.Many thanks

: Stop in Oaxaca. A great city. Oaxaca is WAY out of the way. If you can pay the money, take the toll route out of Veracruz to Mexico DF, then the toll route to Acapulco. You can do the trip easily in one day.
