Trip report Guanajuato to Laredo

Made a trip from Guanjuato to Laredo last Sunday. No incidents on trip. There were few passenger cars on 57, but then it was a Sunday. I saw a Mexican troop convoy of about 6 trucks with soldiers accompanied aby 2 small ambulances heading north. In the outskirts of Nuevo Laredo, there was a checkpoint of local police.

Migracion report: the Migracion officer gave me the new common form to fill out on which I put my FM3 number. He took 1/2 and said to bring the other half back when I returned. He did not enter anything on a computer as I expected. Maybe they do that later. If these forms are just filled away, I wonder how they will keep track of who has used up their 6 month tourist visa time?

I don't know what happens to the forms at your crossing point but at the Guadalajara airport, the immigration officer there told me a week or so ago, that he enters the information in the computer each day. He was just tying up a huge bundle of forms which were from the day before, and the office was littered with tied up bundles of forms from earlier days.

I persuaded him to give me two forms for our next exit from the country. It speeds things up if you have filled out forms, ready to go, when you get to the immigration office.

Thanks for the information. I expect that they do the same in Nuevo Laredo. ie put the forms on the computer. I had to go out to my car to get a pen to fill out the form. I will be better prepared the next time.
