Teotihuacan to El Tajin by Bus

Would strongly doubt that - there is no bus station to Teotihuacan, just buses stopping at the side of the road. To the best of my knowledge, there are only second-class buses back to DF (may be some local buses as well). Even if you manage to get something in a nearby town, it would be a slow second-class bus making all stops you can think of. Most likely, though, even if you find something avoiding a trip back to Mexico City, you'd have to transfer somewhere. The fastest way would be just to go back to the Northern Bus Terminal (it is only an hour away from the piramides) and take the Papantla or a Poza Rica bus there - you can get a direct 1st class bus. It is a nice overnight trip (5-6 hours) - the part of the highway nearer Papantla is not yet finished, so the bus takes a fairly frightful mountain road, where at 30km/hour it seems to be speeding, so it takes a while, given the distance. Just a note: there is not much to do in Papantla, neither it is particularly charming, so don't budget more time to spend in town than you absolutely have to. Poza Rica is larger and even less pleasant - an oil town. It is also much hotter there than in DF. If not for Tajin, neither of these would be a tourist destination, and for a good reason. So, it makes sense go to Tajin early (take an overnight bus to arrive in the morning), and by early afternoon catch a bus back to Mexico City (or Veracruz). If you have time - there are many other archeological or other sites in and around DF you may want to visit.
