Taking things across the boder

We hope to rent a place on the beach near Manzanillo for a couple of months this winter. The place we are considering does not have lots of amenities. We plan to drive there in a pickup truck, and tow a trailer with all of the “stuff” we would like to have for the trip. The stuff includes basic household items (some cookware, kitchen utensils, dishes, small appliances, bedding and linens etc, etc). On the trailer we also want to bring a motorcycle, a reasonable size licensed and plated touring bike.

We have a few questions about getting the stuff we plan to bring in and out of the country. Maybe someone that has done this before can provide us with some insight.

Are their any restrictions on bringing household items in and out of the country for a short term stay? Is any special paperwork required?

We will be getting a temporary vehicle permit for the truck; can we get one for the motorcycle that is being towed at the same time? If not how do we go about getting one? Both vehicles are registered to the same person.
Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Depends. Big word in Mexico. Pulling a cargo trailer behind a motorhome, I was never questioned, but pulling small tarped flatbed trailer, I was. I was told to make a list of the contents on the trailer for my rented casita and put a price on the used items. This included bed, dresser, desk chair, microwave etc. I paid a very small duty and was on my way.

Have your list of appliances ready with approximate cost of $10 to $20 each and total. Don't show it unless asked. Nevermind the dishes and such. Search in forum for list of items that you can bring in without paying duty, such as, one laptop per person.

One person can permit the truck, trailer and motorcycle. Enjoy your stay in Mexico, you're in for a fantastic adventure.
