I took a magnificent bike ride from the Big Bend over to the tiny border town of Ojinaga, Chih yesterday. Mostly I went for the ride, but a friend needed me to pick up some prescription meds for her too, so I crossed over the border. Though I am a woman, I have short hair and if you zip me up into a leather jacket and put a big helmet on me it is hard to tell I am female. My helmet also has a cool built in sunshade that flips down and I must admit though I love the sunshade it does make me look like something from a movie set. The folks of this small town obviously don't see Gringo motorcycles very often. Small children were hiding behind their Mother's skirts and women crossed to the other side of the street when I parked my bike. That is...until I took off the helmet and jacket! Then they all stared and came closer to make sure their eyes weren't lying to them. Yep, it's a Gringa! I had to go to 2 different farmacias and it happened at both places. As a side note to a few folks that have talked about taking their bikes into Mexico. I scraped bottom on 3 different topes! I'll be leaving my bike with a friend when I enter Mexico at the end of this month. Not gonna tear up my baby on Mexican topes and oyos!
