Shortcut

San Diego to Cabo san Lucas

Can't Post |
I am going to be driving down to Cabo in Nov and need some help with planning. I thought I wouuld spent the first night in Ensenada and get an early start the next morning. After that I don't have a clue. I want to make the trip in two days driving only during the day. Any ideas of were to stop and places to stay will be appreciated.

Hi,
I would try to get much further down than Ensenada on the first day, since it is approx. 1200 miles of narrow, no shoulder, desert road. Try for Guerrero Negro the first day at least. then maybe on to La Paz, for a night and a half day more to Cabo.
Two Proffesional Mexican Bus Drivers require 22 hours from TJ to La Paz. Don't try to be Superman out there, OK.

Just a reminder that sunset is around 5:40 pm in mid-November, and you don't want to be on the road in Baja after dark if you can help it.

Two years ago, I did the reverse trip from Cabo to Tecate, CA, in early May. I tracked my time behind the wheel pretty closely, and it worked out to be almost exactly 24 hours, not counting food, gas, and potty stops. I did it in two days, but I was a zombie when I arrived in Tecate.

Take your time, and enjoy the trip....

: It is a minimum of two days from Ensenada. Two long, grueling days. Very few options of where to stay - Guerrero Negro seems to be the most popular. There is only one place to consider for dinner and I can't remember the name... As you drive into town it is on your right - they have trailer accommodations and a modest motel. YOU MUST HAVE PESOS TO BUY GAS, FOOD, ETC. No one takes credit cards or travelers checks. Some might take American dollars. And buy gas whenever you see it. It is a long, nasty trip. The second day from G.N. to Cabo is very long.
