Safe route north to Texas from SMA

I will be leaving San Miguel de Allende on Thursday. Can anyone recommend a SAFE and fast route north? I haven't been able to find out if the Saltillo-Piedras Negras route is open now due to the Sabinas bridge. If you can recommend a route, could you also tell me where to cancel my car papers as I live in New Mexico and don't fancy a trip back to Juarez later to cancel them. You'd really be helping out two anxious ladies of "a certain age."!

I don't think Highway 57 is open all the way between Saltillo/Monclova and Piedras. It is supposed to open next week according to some reports but you should check for status on the website the moderator posted last week.

Things have been relatively quiet the last two days in Nuevo Laredo. Things can change though in a moment and there is no advance warning when something breaks out. Columbia bridge is an option, but you have to travel through an area that historically has been far less secure than NL proper.

You can cancel the vehicle permit at a booth right before you get to the toll booths at Bridge II in NL, but there is only one station open. I am told the the main permit station between the bridges is open. To get there you take the Cesar de Lara exit before you get to the first stoplight on Blvd. Luis Donaldo Coloso (just past the KM 10 road marker). Coloso is the loop road around the east side of NL. You take the exit off the Monterrey highway that says Coloso/Bridge II which is just past the Mitsubishi dealership on the right as you approach the southern outskirts of NL.
