Road Trip: Patzcuaro to Xilitla.

We are tentatively planning a trip in our Ford Windstar from Pátzcuaro to Xilitla and beyond. We're interesting in driving over la Sierra Gorda at least part of the way.

From what I already have read about Fed.Ruta 120, from Tequisquiápan to Jalpan and thence to Xilitla, the road is very mountainous, winding and scenic.

We'd plan to overnight in Jalpan or even sooner, in Tequisquiápan, for example. We want to take our time and stop where photo or food ops present themselves.

Have any of you who have driven this route have any tips or advice, especially to distances, times, lodgings and dining?
