Road Conditions: South of Puerto Vallarta

Can't Post |
Hello
I am travelling to Puerto Vallarta in June to see the solar eclipse (June 10)
The city itself sees a great show (97% of the sun covered) but I plan to travel south of there to get to the main path of the eclipse. (where a ring of sunlight will be visible)
I've done some research on the road conditions south of town: many sources describe the condition of Highway 200.
But I need to go to the areas right along the coast: I need a perfectly flat horizon to see the sunset eclipse. This is something that I may not get from Hwy 200.
The following websites show roads that are south of town and head to the coast:
http://www.maps-of-mexico.com/jalisco-state-mexico/jalisco-state-mexico-map-a2.shtml
and
http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/ASE2002/ASE2002gif/PuertoVallarta3a.jpg
Note that the second map shows the path of the eclipse; this is where the ring of sunlight will be visible (if you have a clear, flat horizon; hence my desire to get to the coast) Outside of this path the eclipse will be visible, just not as a ring.
There are clearly some roads within the path that head to the coast.
Can anyone tell me the condition of any of these roads?
What do these roads become like when it rains?
I see that these roads cross rivers at different points: are these impassable?
I am especially interested in the road that runs from El Tuito to Chimo: can anyone tell me about this road?
Thanks so much for your assistance.
Mark Egan

Main highway fine. Side roads can get nasty if it rains!
Road Log: www.emilebymile.com/main/mexico/jalisco/state_200/Mexico_jalisco-road-map-logs.html
