Return to Lake Chapala

My wife and I have to drive to our house on Lake Chapala after a two month stay in the States. Have to say after 10 years of living in Mexico we have never been as nervous about driving across the border as now. Our plan is to cross at Laredo on a Sunday morning just at daylight so we can anticipate being south of Saltillo by10:30 am . My thought is most of the bad guys would still be in bed recovering from Saturday night. I guess this really falls back to the black bean theory. Dose anyone have any ideas on a better day or time to cross? Thanks.....

There is no appreciable risk in crossing at Nuevo Laredo. The city has not had any public incidents of violence for over a month. Cross early because there is less traffic and on any day of the week. Do what is convenient for you. If you were serious, you were really overthinking in planning your trip around what you believe to be the Zeta lifestyle. Just stay on Coloso after you cross at Bridge II and stay on Hwy 85/Autopista. There haven't been any incidents on the NL-Monterrey cuota since March.

By my comment I meant that the Zetas are a highly organized, disciplined group. They are very purposeful and rarely engage in random, spontaneous, individual criminal acts. They certainly don't organize their criminal activity around traditional social schedules. If they are stealing vehicles they are as likely to be doing it at 6 a.m. on Sunday as any other time.
