Can anyone recommend a hotel in Puerto Escondido--reasonably priced?

Flor de Maria

Just off the top, I'm not sure that the words "reasonably priced" mean much when addressing a diverse group. My in-laws would consider US$100-$125/night "reasonably priced" while I have friends who consider anything over US$40/night excessive.
My wife and I stayed at Flor de Maria for a week around 1995. It was comfortable, seemed to be pretty well run, and had a decent restaurant. My recollection is that it was about US$35/night 'way back then.
It is located on a side street about 20 minutes walk from the downtown tourist area. The side street runs up from the beach. The walk to the beach is about two minutes.
There were a couple of quirky things about it. There is a "swimming pool" (about four feet deep) on the roof. The husband/owner, Lino, seemed to be pretty out-of-sorts. The wife/owner, Maria, seemed to be very busy.
That over six years ago, so presumably some things have changed a bit.

We drove through Mexico three years ago and stayed there. We planned on staying one night and stayed three before traveling on. It also has a great restuarant and pool and bar on the roof. The rooms are very very clean and nicely decorated. The owners are wonderful. If the little Palapa bar on the beach is still I recommend that. Facing the ocean it was a little to the left outside of the hotel on the beach, it is a great place for drinks with happy hour run by two brothers.

I Enthusiastically Recommend The Flor De Maria!

My girlfriend and I just returned from Puerto Escondido after a weeks stay at the Flor De Maria. We loved the place! It is now run by Paul and Joanne ( a very sweet couple ). The hotel is decorated with very cute painting and detail. It has a restaurant that is wonderful and the staff is very friendly. It's a stone's throw from Playa Marinero, which is, in my opinion, the best beach to swim and play at in Puerto Escondido. Like Dianne mentioned, there is also a very fun Bar/Hut just on the beach down the road from the hotel. It's probably a 10 minute stroll on the beach into town (not 20!) all the while passing sunbathers, fishing boats and water taxis on the bay. We had reservations here for 2 days and decided to extend our stay an extra 4 or 5 days. We loved it!

I stayed there in 2000 during low season and the rooms were around 27 bucks. I usually stay in MUCH cheaper places, but it was a treat to stay there and another cool thing is that if you decide to go on an ecotour trip to Manialtepec or Chacalacas, you can get picked up from the hotel. It's also a stone's throw from Carmen's 2nd cafecito. The owners are Italian/Canadian and very very nice.
