Yes, we are back. Before leaving I called and made reservations at hotels that said they accepted pets. Mostly I found these on Travelocity. When we checked in I made sure they knew we had a pet.
The first night we stayed at the Best Western Hotel Maria del Carmen in Merida. This is a nice hotel near downtown with decent rooms, pool, restaurant, and secure parking. We paid $72 for the room. Their phone number is 999-930-0390. No problems at this hotel at all.
The next 2 nights we stayed at the Chan Kah Resort Village at Palenque. We have stayed at this hotel before but not with our dog. We stayed 2 nights since we wanted to tour the ruins and because this is such a nice hotel. I don’t think this hotel shows up on Travelocity, at least as accepting pets. We were told that the Kin-Ha accepts pets, but when I called they said no and recommended Chan Kah. Travelocity shows the Calinda as accepting pets, but when I called they said they didn’t. I didn’t pursue the matter. I talked to the manager at Chan Kah and he said no problem with the dog. They have a web site at www.chan-kah.zl.com.mx. Their phone number is 916-345-1100 or toll free at 01-800-714-3247. We had no problems with the dog at this hotel and the staff was friendly and helpful. This is a lovely hotel with individual air conditioned bungalows in a peaceful jungle setting (no TV) and they have a natural stone type of pool that is absolutely wonderful. The pool is huge with 3 sections. Even if you don’t see the ruins, this hotel is worth stopping at. We paid $100 per night.
The next night we stayed at the Casa Inn Xalapa in Xalapa which I don’t recommend. This is a little bit off the route, but we had never been to Xalapa and wanted to see what it is like. The problem with this hotel is that even though they said they accepted pets, they gave us a hard time after we arrive when the dog backed twice. They even said we would have to leave if the dog barked again. The irony of this was that there was quite a bit of noise from loud guests. The hotel is ok, but there is no air conditioning which could be a problem.
Our last night in Mexico we stayed at the Hotel Camio Real Tampico in Tampico. This is a nice hotel but very expensive at $161 per night. Nice pool and restaurant and secure parking. The staff was friendly and we had no problems. Their phone number is 833-213-8811 or toll free at 01-800-570-0000. They also have a web site at www.camiorealtampico.com.
There is another hotel that we have stayed at numerous times on the Emerald Coast just north of Nautla. The name of the hotel is El Palmar and it is located on Highway 180 along the gulf coast shortly after 180 parallels the coast. The hotel is on the water side. They accept pets without any problems and are fairly cheap at $33 per night.
