Pinacate and HWY Route 2 questions....

Just wondering if anyone has any info about the condition of this HWY from Yuma through the Pinacates. I was going to Puerto Penasco from Yuma but thought I would take the scenic shortcut through the Mountain range. I live in Tucson and always go through Lukeville but this time I'm seeing a concert first in Yuma and the route 2 trip would be much faster than going back up to Ajo or something. I've seen all sorts of wild estimates on how long this has taken others...but they were taking pictures and stuff. I'd like to stop for one or two, but I'm not collecting rocks and identifying the black skinned horny toad or whatever... I've got a 99 wrangler 6 cyl with shiny new Goodrich TA's just waiting to get scuffed...so that won't be a problem. Just didn't want to blow a bunch of time with my "short cut". It seems it would save 40 miles or so but how much am I wasting by slow driving? What is the condition of the turn offs? I understand that I should take the last exit...but still not sure if it's marked or what. Any help would be greatly appreciated....and maybe I'll buy you a margarita down there too!<p>James
