Traveling with two labs to Akumal(south of Cancun) normally take the gulf route, but it seems to dangerous. Going Eagle Pass to Saltillo bypass Mexico City and head to the Yucatan. Does anyone know of Pet friendly hotels on the route?

Hotel Cascada in Orizaba is very nice next to a nice park and right off the freeway. They told us they did not take pets but we have been staying there under the condition to arrive after 8PM and have a ckennel.
The food from their restaurant is very good as well.
They are right next to a gas station on the right handside of the freeway.

The maids do not like dogs but they will close their eyes if you go by their rules. Do not go over a weekend. Look at gringodogs.com they have a list of hotels that aree pet friendlyl.
Having a kennel with you and renting one of the bungalow goes a long way towards getting a room.

In Puebla you can find a kennel or vet where you can leave the dog over night and stay in a regular hotel. This was the idea of one of the downtown hotel , they had a vet they recommended but I lost the info.
We have not asked the couple of new hotels that are off the freeway although we have stayed there without dogs. They are business hotels and do not seem to be pet friendly but I guess you do not know until you ask.

I remember seeing pet friendly hotels in Villahermosa on gringodog.com

There is an auto hotel going North on the Puebla Mexico hwy. It is very new, has a reautrant is by a Pemex station, it is called San Isidro. We are planning to stay there next time we need a place in Puebla that is dog friendly-
It is north of the VW plant.
Two days ago we stayed at the Cascadas in Orizaba again. It is a great place. I would not recommend showing up with dogs on week-ends but during the week it is great. The grounds are wonderful. it is right next to a beautiful park and I highly recommend their fried shrimp.
We had cages but this time they did not ask. We always rent a bungalow and our next door neighbor had a boxer.
You need to pick up afer the dogs in the park and on the property. A couple of people there speak English.
The hotel is on the south side of the freeway by a Pemex station. It is a great place, the people there are really nice. The price of the bungalows is 800 pesos.

After having internet problems, I can post about our trip. We crossed at Piedras Negras and went down 57 to Matehuala. We stayed at Las Palmas. It now has some rooms set aside for pets. No problem with our 2 labs. The cost was 800 pesos. It took us about 8 hrs. to get to Matehuala, including getting our papers. The next day we drove about 4 hrs. to SMA. Quinta Loreto takes pets there. After 3 days. we left SMA around 11 am. The arco norte is great. By 3 we were on the other side of Puebla. Campestre Maria Isabel in Tepeaca at km 36 on the old Puebla Tehuacan highway takes pets and the rate is 380. It was still early so we tried Las Cascadas in Orizaba. After talking to the manager she allowed our two labs in the bungalow. The rate was high 1244, but it could be that it was a Sunday. We left Orizaba and drove to Palenque. Stayed at La Aldea, great hotel on the road to the ruins. 800 pesos, big pool, a/c, porches and a good restaurant. The next day we had our longest drive about 9 hrs. to our place in Akumal. Great trip, no problemas. The advice about the arco norte and pet hotels on the forum made it an easy trip.

You are lucky they took you on a week-end in Orizaba! We usually pay around 800 pesos but the rates go up on week-ends. Thanks for the tips on other hotels!
