: Has anyone had a problem with getting permission from lienholder, a bank, for a 4 month stay in Mexico? Thanks
:No, infact the bank was more than happy to produce a letter on their letterhead stating the vehicle could be taken out of the country at any time for any length of time,(along with description of the vehicle). That way you never need to have a letter done again for that vehicle. Walked it across the street to have notorized by my lawyer and now keep in a safe place til needed. After making sure it was done correctly and notorized, they never even asked for it at the border!!

: Has anyone had a problem with getting permission from lienholder, a bank, for a 4 month stay in Mexico? Thanks
I think it depends on the bank. My bank would only give me permission for 90 days. And they did ask for it at the border when getting a car permit.

Whether to grant the permission is totally within the discretion of the lienholder. Playing into that decision is the individual's credit history, how many payments are left remaining, the individual's net worth, company policy, the attitude of the guy (or gal) in charge. So, if you've only made a few payments, have a history of late and missed payments, have no real ties to the community, are a risky customer, or it's against the lender's policy, don't expect permission to take the vehicle out of the country.

I did not have a problem at all asking and getting from my lienholder of my brand new $40,000 SUV the required notarized letter. You'll need to produce this letter when getting your permit at Banjercito.
