We left Puerto Vallarta last Saturday morning, crossed at Colombia Sunday afternoon. No drama, one military checkpoint on 57.

We stayed overnight in San Luis Potosi at the Zar (They did not object to our dog). We drive a 2010 Chrysler Mini-van.

Assuming you asking about safety, I never gave that a thought. The Zar is located about a kilometer from 57, not in the city proper. We drive every almost every day we are in Mexico and have been doing so for the last 6 years. I worry more about traffic accidents than I do "bad guys".
