Is that drive doable in a day (leaving PV on a Sunday morning)? Last year I stopped for the night at SLP but recently met a fellow from Chicago who says he drives to Matehuala the first day and the Colombia Bridge by early to mid-afternoon the second day. It seems reasonable to me, especially on a Sunday which should make it easier to get around GDL in the late morning. Any thoughts out there.

I would have done it that way a few years ago. However, we now leave PV and stop over in San Luis Potosi. We can then reach the Columbia crossing about 4 or so the next day. We stop in San Antonio that night.
