Nogales to Chihuahua

seems like there are two routes. On one (I think it is Hwy 2) you are just south of the border. I know that route starting at Douglas, Arizona. It's a pretty drive, two line road, no shoulders. It's high dessert, dry lakebeds, a little bit of up and down, very light traffic until about Janus. I don't like the check point there, and from then on through Casas Grandes there were a lot of holes in the pavement, and topes. Nice country though. It's a slow way of getting to Chihuahua. I-10 to Santa Teresa NM, then the toll road is the fastest.<p>The other route from Nogales to Chihuahua would be to go to Hermosillo, where you take a left and go to Basasiachi, then San Juanita. I've heard the road from Hermosillo was paved in the recent past and is in good condition but with a zillion curves up and down mountains, but that it is very pretty (but don't expect to be able to take your eyes off the road often). I know the road from San Juanito to Chihuahua. It is good road, a nice drive. From Cuauhtemo to Chihuahua it is freeway (toll).
