New Travel Warning Put Out By President Calderon's Office Today

Can't Post | Private Reply
I was watching the television news this morning on a Mexican Spanish Language channel and a running footer across the bottom of the screen kept putting out a travel warning for travel in Tamaulipas, Monterrey and a few other places. Is this just the same old standard warning or is something new brewing that we should be aware about? Anyone else see this morning or have any additional knowledge about this from Calderon's Office?

With respect to the Monterrey area, the article which follows may provide a clue:

The last think that Calderon or the Country of Mexico needs is a rash of foreign executive kidnappings!

And just when things were seeming to die down a little! And of course I have to go back to the VA for some eye surgery, at the end of the month. Oh well .. . . . . . . . . . another test of the black bean!

I have searched the news and I have not seen anything from Calderon or the Mexican government. However the government of Spain did issue such a travel warning today. Could this be what you saw? It would seem odd to me that the Mexican government would issue such a warning.

"MADRID, 13 DE enero (apro).- El gobierno español recomendó a sus ciudadanos que de viajar a México eviten visitar las ciudades de Monterrey, Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Culiacán, así como el estado de Tamaulipas, debido a los graves problemas de inseguridad."

Hi Casa,

You are quite right. That could have been what I saw indeed. It well may have been a message from Spain that was being shown, but it did have the name Caldaron attached to it. Oh well if that is all it is, then probbly willl just tuck away with the rest.

Maybe this report was also put out because of the 12 narcos and 2 military killed in a gun fight in Xalapa, Veracruz with another in "Las últimas horas del sábado fueron testigo de un enfrentamiento entre elementos del Ejército Mexicano y sicarios, esto en el municipio de China, Nuevo León." (BlogdelNarco), Nuevo León, Chihuahua and Tamaulipas also seem to be heating up again. (Again see blogdelnaroc) Although the milkitary seems to be the agressor and this is what is needed. Seems the military may just be getting into the idea of offense rather than defense or after the fact. Opinions?
