We need a Spanish language version of DTC POA@ - TSB 09.18.6 (1 page) and 414-03-01 to 414-03-06 (6 pages in English). Ford does not sell Hybrids in Mexico and the dealership´s service departments said they have only worked on 2 Ford Escapes in 3 years.
Can you PLEASE help us with our 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid?

Ford PDC/Cancun has advised the technician schedule to work on our car 5 January due to a family emergency will be unavailable until at least Monday January 10. Ford Cancun does not have an English speaking Service Manager or technician but also sells Mazda automobiles at their dealership and Hugo, the Mazda Service Manager speaks English. -

Wednesday, January 4-
PLAN: Follow TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) instructions re: Hybrid Battery wiring. Ford told us to call or come to their service center at 12 noon Wednesday. They expected to complete all TSB steps but Hybrid Battery removal because they will need to borrow the "cherry picker" from Ford Cancun. When we arrived we learned that the mechanic scheduled to work on our car had a family emergency. They are waiting for a mechanic to arrive from Ford Cancun. -

I am not certain what your actual question is but from my experience ( I work on these often) for code POA27, the main battery will need to be removed and disassembled and service harness 7M6Z-14A303-B will need to be installed. The problem is the battery control module (BCM) needs to be reprogrammed as the same problem will be there even after the harness is installed. I don't know if the dealers there have the software capability to reprogram the BCM, you will have to find out. I remove these batteries all the time without any special equipment, just 2 people lift rear of battery and set on 2x4 to prop up battery then slide back and lift out. I usually set it on a bench to disassemble.
For the P1A10, This is just a sister code to the POA27 indicating the battery module is signaling a concern to the power train control module. Once the harness is installed and the BCM is reprogrammed it will take care of both codes. Click below for removal instructions for the battery. I follow all these steps except the engine crane.
The instructions for battery disassembly, harness install and reprogramming are included in the harness kit 7M6Z-14A303-B.
If the vehicle had recall 07B48 performed then the recall harness should be removed and the kit harness installed. I doubt it was done because usually this problem never occurs if the recall was performed.

A Service Manager at a Ford Dealer in Oregon suggested checking air filter for Hybrid Battery, that coolant fan for Hybrid Battery is working and the electric water pump for the hybrid battery.
Ford PDC/Cancun obtained the correct technical service bulletin in Spanish late today and will be following the steps indicated tomorrow. The last step requires removing the Hybrid Battery which is very heavy and will require borrowing the equipment from the Ford Cancun dealership.
Apparently there is a known issue regarding the Hybrid Battery that was unknown to us. We believe the Hybrid Battery could have overheated, possibly blown a fuse or needs additional wrapping around wiring under it because it might have been jostled hitting so many topees (Mexican Speed Bumps) on our drive from Placencia, Belize (Southern Belize) back to Cancun/PDC and this caused the problem.
Once we identify the cause, we will hopefully identify the part(s) needed and get them to someone arriving in Cancun via plane to avoid having them go through international customs then shipped to Ford/Mexico City then Cancun. - P1A1O code
P1A1O= Battery is disabled Vehicle runs fine and will pass KOEO test with no problem until red triangle comes on and stop vehicle safely warning comes on. Vehicle will shut down and will not restart. Will not start for between 10min.-1hr.
Heres what I found online at Escape-City: P1A10 - Hybrid Powertrain Control Module - Battery Disabled
Description: This is an informational DTC and it can be set as a result of the vehicle operating with the engine disabled, the vehicle operating in the NEUTRAL for an extended period of time, or the vehicle operating with a traction battery concern.
Possible Causes: Powertrain concern
Traction battery control module (TBCM) communications concern
Traction battery system concern
Transmission is in NEUTRAL for an extended period of time while the vehicle is enabled
Diagnostic Aids: The circuit DTCs can be accompanied by the informational DTCs, and should be diagnosed first. An informational DTC without a circuit DTC may or may not indicate the actual concern and should be diagnosed as a symptom. A combination of DTCs and symptoms may help to pinpoint which vehicle subsystem is a cause of this DTC. When set in combination with DTC U0111, this DTC may indicate a concern with battery power off (BPO) circuit or loss of controller area network (CAN) communications. When set in combination with the PCM DTCs P1A0C or P1A0D and Stop Safely Now message is displayed, this DTC may indicate a concern with the powertrain system. When set in combination with the PCM DTC P1A0C, this may indicate a low traction battery voltage due to repeated unsuccessful engine start attempts. When set alone, and no DTCs are present in the TBCM or the TCM, this DTC may indicate that the transmission is in NEUTRAL for an extended period of time while the vehicle is enabled and the hybrid system shut down to protect the traction battery from discharging. Ford PDC/Cancun contacted Ford Dealer Support in Mexico City to obain more information on diagnostic codes. -
Our friend in Oregon called her local ford dealer's service manager and emailed: "He said that it is probably hot and dusty where you are. He said the rear filter from the battery (hepa) heats up and causes the Hazard warning lamp to come on. Clean out the filter. and it should be ok. He said this touble is something that happens quite abit in hot dusty weather. Maybe you drove through some dust in the hot weather."-
When we drove from Belize City to Placencia on December 18 we unfortunately took a short cut that locals said would save time and ended up on dusty unpaved roads for five hours. So this suggestion makes a lot of sense.

Friday, December 31 - Ford PDC/Cancun communicating via email with our California Ford dealer regarding diagnostic codes. Codes obtained at Ford PDC/Cancun do not make sense to California Ford. The software for Ford PDC/Cancun probably differs from that used in USA because Ford doesn't sell or service Hybrid models in Mexico. -

Towed our 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid to Ford PDC/Cancun- Ford does not sell Hybrids in Mexico and the dealership´s service departments said they have only worked on 2 Ford Escapes in 3 years.
- Ford PDC/Cancun suggested we find a Spanish speaking person knowledgeable about a 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid. Ford PDC/Cancun does not have diagnostic equipment for it and they NEED a Service Manual.
- They KNOW if they need a part it will take a LONG TIME. So once they identify the part, they suggested we find someone flying to Cancun from USA to Canada to bring it. This could save the time waiting for a package to clear Mexican customs from US/Canada even if we have it shipped FedEx/DHL/UPS etc.

Tuesday, December 28 - Same problem with "Master Vehicle Electrical Hazard Warning Lamp" coming on AND car stopping within minutes. Monday mechanics had day off so we waited for Wednesday. -
Monday, December 27 - Two mechanics at our resort that take care of the resort's vehicle fleet got the car working fine and we took it for a test drive. It was an overcast and cold day. Now (Jan 3) that we believe the Hybrid battery could be overheating this might be why it worked on December 27. -

August 2006 - December 26, 2010 - No problem ever with our Ford Escape Hybrid.
