Misantla to Nuevo Laredo or Reynosa?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Been here in Misantla, Veracruz since June 09. Need to move to travel to San Antonio, TX. I can do all the regular mapping, Bing, Garmin GPS, but none really show the road conditions, or show roads that really don't exist. Any suggestions?

I was hoping someone took this route occasionally. I know it's not a route most would take, but gotta renew the tags. Fun stuff. I like the website though, and hopefully I can contribute something along the way. New here, but not to forums, etc.

Looking at a map, that looks to be one convoluted route. Looks to me like you need to head for the coast and work your way up past Tuxpan and Tampico. If you can get over to Queretaro you have a pretty simple route from there on. Mexico doesn't have a lot of straight shot city to city highways like the U.S. interstate system. It would be so nice to have a straight highway run along the gulf coast between Veracruz and Matamoros.

Have you considered taking a bus?

Hello,

If I were you I would just take the coast route north as far as Tampico. At Tampico decide whether to head for Soto de la Marina or Cd. Vicoria.
Cd. Victoria is almost all two and two half lane or 4 lane highway. Soto de La Marina is two lane but in excellent condition and is much shorter.

Either way, just north of San Fernando is a new direct highway to Reynosa. It is only about 2 years old now and is probably not shown on
any of the maps. It too is two lane but actually two and two half lanes most of the way. A boring drive but without problems. Many long straight
stretches.

It will drop you off in Reynosa a straight shot to the international bridge. Figure 45 minutes to an hour to cross.

No reason to go to Laredo at all.

Have a good trip.

jerezano.
Magna gasoline at frozen $7.72 p/l and at 3.785 liters/gal. and $13 p/dollar is now costing $2.25 dollars/gal. More pesos per dollar cheaper gas & viceversa.

I second Jerezano's recommendation for the highway just north of San Fernando. He advised me about this brand-new, toll-free highway almost two years ago. Judy and I drove it then, crossing from Reynosa to McAllen, and recommend it every chance we get. It was a fast, trouble-free, wonderful trip.

Thanks folks. I do have to go the Laredo way though, as my wife and son will be moving into a house there, and I get to go slug it out with job hunting fun.

Well, we made it. Was a long trip to make. Not for mileage, but for travelling with an infant always adds a lot of time to a trip.
Warning to all travelling through Tampico... the transitos there are thiefs. I'm sure you all know what I mean, just throwing that heads up out there.
