Mexican airlines announce cutbacks

Looks like hard times are befalling some airlines in México. Here is a list of upcoming flight reductions (in Spanish). http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/...s/pdf/aerolineas.pdf

Rolly all the things I read and the economists that I talk to remind me that it is not the U.S. only that is being strongly effected by the energy crises but the world in general.
These same people are also stating that we are not running towards inflation but a deflation of which few of us have had to live through.

And I remember Katie Couric two weeks ago refusing to call the situation as it is, rather calling the economic collapse "an economic slowdown." Such fluff!

Fluff is right! "Slowdown" sounds like a well-earned rest. As an employer who has had to lay off four people this summer I have a different perspective. We deal in home improvement products and people are just not doing the usual projects. This is the first time in my memory that I have lost confidence in the economy's ability to rebound. People are scared. I have a feeling that the money is out there for many folks, but they want to hold onto it. And I don't blame them. I will be retiring to Mexico for good in a few months and I have absolutely no regrets, other than feeling bad for those I'm leaving behind to deal with this mess. As for the original topic of energy costs, we feel it in surcharges from all of our suppliers and shippers. I just opened my Chevron bill of $400.00 for the past 30 days!

The economy is bad in the U.S. and worsening elsewhere. No place is immune and, yes, people are scared, very scared.

I currently have a manager position open that will not be filled and at least 2-fulltime positions that won't be filled either. In the food industry we're getting a double whammy. Not only are food prices going up, so are the fuel prices to deliver the food. Not one of my vendors does not have a fuel surcharge tacked onto the invoice. You can only raise prices so far, or reduce portion sizes before you meet purchase resistance and we're rapidly approaching that point. We're getting hammered with rapidly escalating expenses and decreasing customer counts at the same time. Some people can not afford to eat meals away from home any longer, some are examining the value for price paid much more closely, and others have simply gone in the savings mode and are looking for any and all ways to hang on to their money.

You're lucky, you've only got a few months left. I've got 2 and possible 3 or 4 to go before I can retire. How ever many years it turns out to be, I'm sure they will be pretty bumpy. And to bring this back to airline cuts. I priced TIJ - MLM (Tijuana/Morelia) on Volaris last week, the fare was still surprisingly reasonable. The tax, however, was more than double the RT airfare!! Nonetheless, it's still was a $300+ savings over flying out of San Diego on a AeroMexico or Continental...and non-stop to boot. Now...if only those 2 daily flights will stick around until November.

The economy is not bad in all sectors of the U.S. we are going through the same type of period now with the housing bubble bust that we did with the teck Bubble burst.
The huge difference with the two is that there is no product that is created in any country that has an enormous impact on the underlying strength of our economy when it goes bad than the housing industrie.
One must seriously take into consideration the huge loss to the housing as we know it in the U.S. if we lose Fannie May Or Freddie Mac.
Mexico at present is not effected by this type of situation because your housing industrie is still going strong.
But again your trading partner is to the North.
With the U.S. supporting 25 % of the world economy and the personal spending in the area of 7-9 trillion dollars annually way out doing any two to three nations in the world , guess what will happen when we stop.
I hate subsidizing in any form but at times its our only salvation, look what passed through the house today and with reluctance singed by Bush today, another bail out.
But the world better sigh that it took place.

New Problems

Mexico City .- The Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) suspended the operations of Aerocalifornia and Jet Express (which operates Continental Express flights) from this Thursday for failing to pay for use of Mexican airspace.

Representatives of the airlines said they have not been notified of the suspension of flights, but it is recommended that users check the status of flights.

In a communique, the SCT reported that Aerocalifornia owed 259 million pesos for payment at various periods from 2005 to 2008.

Jet Express, a company that operates 90 percent of flights operated by Continental Express in Mexico, owed 44.5 million pesos.
