Mazda van vs. Toyota Camry

Can't Post |
I'll be driving to Mexico in August and staying about five months. I'm trying to decide if I should take a fairly new Mazda minivan (year 2000 MPV) or a 1992 Toyota Camry. I was thinking it would be easier to get the Toyota repaired should we have any breakdowns and also it wouldn't be as much of a target since it's older. But the van is roomier and it would nice to have it. Any one have any advice on this?
Thanks,
Amy

:There are no Toyota dealers in Mexico, also I believe no Mazda dealers.Idrove my1995 Camry wagon for three years & for the last three years my Camry Solara.I have had no mechanical or security problems.Toyota Canada advised me if I needed parts for any problems while in Mexico,to phone the parts dept in California & they would gladly forward the parts required, they will not guarantee the parts,as they will not be installed by a factory trained mechanic, they advised an inspection of the the part instaalation when I returned home,Bien viaje,Jaime

Trade your Toy for a similar Chrysler mini-van & then drive it to MX.

There are, in fact, Toyota dealers in Mex - as of very recently. One is on Av. Universidad in DF. But there are few of them.

Amy,
There are four Toyota dealers now open in Mexico City, one in Monterrey and one in Guadalajara. I have a Lexus down here, no dealers, but I nevertheless have had independent mechanics fix my car. You would be surprised how many mechanics used to work on Toyotas or other types of cars not sold or just recently being sold in Mexico.
Strangely enough, Toyota is selling only the Toyota Camry right now:) So I am sure you can get repairs. They plan to introduce the Corolla later followed by other Toyota models.
