Hi,
Does anyone know any good, safe, budget(under or around $15.00) hotels in Mazatlan? Also, what is the cheap way into town from the airport? Where do you find bus schedules for the coat travelling Maz to Tepic and Guadalajara. Muchas Gracias!

Greta:
Regarding inexpensive hotels in Mazatlan, the Hotel Lerma in the Centro is your best bet. I have never been in it but through various friends, I'm told it is very safe and would meet your dollar limit needs.
As far as getting from the airport to the Maz, the least expensive way is to take a combi or van type bus. When you come into the main airport area, look for the booth that sells tickets for said van. The only negative part about it is that they have to have at least five people before they will send it on its way but it only costs about 6 U.S. dollars. In comparison, the taxis cost about 25 U.S. dollars. There is no other way to get to the city unless you know someone here who would pick you up. It's a union thing.
The van/combi will take you to the Hotel Lerma but you will be dropped off according to the passenger list. Since many people stay in the touristy area called the Golden Zone, they usually drop there first. This means you may have as long as an hour and half drive before you get to your destination. However, be aware that the drive from the airport to the tourist zone itself is at least a half hour.
I don't know of a web site where you can access the bus schedule you require but I would suggest that once you get to Mazatlan, simply go to the central bus station and check out the schedules and prices there. The central bus station will be easy to find once you're here. You can get there by city bus or local taxis. Once you reach the Lerma, there should be numerous folks who can help you with details.
Hope this helps.
Rhonda
