Limited road access re-established between Monterrey and Nuevo Laredo

With the repair of a bridge in Ciudad Anahuac, reports are that limited road access has been re-established between Monterrey and Nuevo Laredo. For details (Spanish), try here, or here for the article's map (also Spanish)
The initial priority will be to supply stores and markets in Nuevo Laredo with fresh produce, since supplies have been cut off for about a week.
Tests are apparently being performed on the bridge to determine what weight limit should be enforced.
The 20,000+ large trucks currently stranded in Nuevo Laredo are unlikely to benefit from the route via Ciudad Anahuac, and will have to wait until one of the major highways is reopened.

The headline of that story is misleading. Much as the local mayor would like it to happen it is not his decision, but one which falls within the competency of the federal authorities.

However [stop press] - the SCT has just announced that the Nuevo Laredo-Monterrey toll road will be reopened later today, but that the free road will remain closed for at least another day or two.

The toll highway between Monterrey and Nuevo Laredo has now been reopened, but so far only for commercial freight trucks and passenger buses.

Traveling with so many transportes is going to be a nightmare with so many of them on the road for the first few weeks I would think. Stopping for food along the way many times, I have seen these drivers slugging back the suds until they were plasterd and then get in that truck and drive away. These truckers scare the %^%*& out of me. I always give them a real wide bearth.
