Leaving with Expired Car Permit

Can't Post |
I've had my car in Mexico for the last 18 months. I entered on a tourist visa, so my car permit expired a year ago. My sister is now going to drive the car out of the country for me. I'd appreciate any advice about how to best deal with the expired permit issue. I want the option to be able to drive a car there in the future. Also, any thoughts on the fact that it would be my sister driving the car out and not me? Any comments and advice would be appreciated.

Your case is even worse do to the out of date permit. The permit is normally good for six months at which point the vehicle must leave the country. <p>

You say that you entered on a tourist visa, which seems to imply that you may have switched to an FM-3, which you should have done to stay for more than 180 days. If that is the case, your car permit is still valid. Your car permit would be good as long as you have an FM-3, but you need to drive the car out of the country yourself so you can get the Comprobante de Retorno, otherwise you may never be able to drive another car in.
