Shortcut

Laredo to Guadalajara via Ojuelos/Lagos de Moreno??

Can't Post |
I will be driving from Laredo to Guadalajara for the December Holidays and I want to stick to the toll roads as much as possible. I am thinking of taking Autopista 57 all the way to San Luis and then cutting over to Highway 80 into Guadalajara via Ojuelos and Lagos de Moreno. According to my 2002 Guía Roji, the whole route is Autopista except for the stretch between SLP and Lagos.
Accordingly I have some questions. Has anyone driven this route recently (within the last year or less)? How long does this stretch (SLP to Lagos)take? Is it dangerous? (In other words are there lots of pot-holes, topes, hairpin curves, tráiler traffic, no shoulders, etc.)? Would anyone recommend an alternate route that is faster/safer? Bear in mind that I want to stay on autopistas as much as possible and avoid narrow two-lane highways as much as possible.
Also, can anyone give me directions on the transfer from 57 over to 80 in SLP. It looks like there is a multi-lane loop around the city connecting the two, but is it well marked?
Thanks so much for your help guys!!!

Drove same route in the spring, a pleasant drive. Don't drive at night,of course. Don't take
highway 80 past Guad. to Melaque...it will put you
in touch with your religeous side very quickly!
Stick to toll roads...57 is not a toll road, but is very good and fast. Have a good navigator and
don't yell at her (him?)...signage around SLP and
Guad. can be somewhat lacking.

down in May back in Aug on this route. almost entirely 4 lane to SLP. New bypass around SLP which is shown in 2002 Guia Roji. Mostly two lane and fairly rough and large stretches of no shoulders from SLP to cuota.(if my aging memory hasn't failed me) I left the lake at 730AM and arrived at Nuevo Laredo about 7 pm. I consider it a good route overall. I mostly stop in Matehuala but it was so early that I pressed on.
