I read on this site somewhere that bridge # 1 is closest to where one obtains thier auto permit , would that be correct??? and if so which one would be bridge # 1, the one on Hwy 81 or the one on San Dano Ave?
As a novice any helpful info as to which would be the best, easyest, etc would be greatly appriciated.

Crossing at Laredo: use bridge #1,you will proceed to the inspection station (green light...red light) if you get green light follow new signs that say car permit. You will turn right at the sign and be going the opposite direction into the parking lot of the new facility. Big sign on building says Entrada (entrance) go in and there are signs hanging fom the cieling #1 visas #2 copies #3Customs #4 car permits .....Buen Viaje

Bridge 1 is the original bridge downtown.
Bridge 2 is right at the terminus of I-35.
The permit office is on the river, under Bridge 1,
but it's easy to get to from Bridge 2 too (just hang a
left immediately after crossing the bridge (there's a
small green sign saying "<- Monterrey"). You'll pass
through a narrow street in a neighborhood that looks
like you don't belong there. Keep going. When it ends
at the main road, you'll need to cross to the service
road on the opposite side and loop back (I believe you
actually take a right at the road, then loop back
at the first stop light).
From Bridge 1, you make a right after you cross, then
keep your eyes peeled for the "Vehicle Permits" sign.
You'll need to make a sharp right to loop back down under
the bridge.
Much easier than finding the old office, IMHO...

Laredo Bridge Crossing

Bridge #1 is the old bridge west of Hwy. #35 and was the only bridge available for cars to cross until last year. Now cars are allowed to cross at Bridge #2 at the foot of Hwy. #35. The new Immigration & Customs office is now located between the two bridges but one level below the bridges. As others have previously explained ,if using bridge #1 you will turn right at the permits sign and pass under Bridge #1 to reach Mexico I&M.
From bridge #2(which is definitely the best one to use),you will turn left at the permits sign and continue down this side street until you come to a 4-lane road. You turn sharp left on this street which then leads you down under bridge #2 to the Mexico I&M.
After you have your permit exit to the east under bridge #2 onto the 4-lane road which is a by-pass around Nuevo Laredo and will lead you directly to Hwy. #85 to Monterrey. When you come to traffic lights on the by-pass at an overpass you turn left on to this road which is Hwy. #85
Hope this provides a complete answer to the Laredo crossing.
